The first 2,000 years of human historythe days of the ancient patriarchs Adam,
Seth, Enoch, Noah and Abraham were filled with epic stories of tragedy and joy.
Because of the restoration of the gospel this epoch is no longer shrouded in mystery and
myth, and many difficult questions can now be answered: Did the Patriarchs really live for
hundreds of years? What about the incredible population growth in ancient times? Why were
pagan religions so attractive to ancient peoples? How did they get started? In what year
did the Great Flood occur? How did Enoch set up the law of consecration which eliminated
poverty and crime?
All of these tremendously important new revelations are discussed in this book. (327

Beginning the
Story of Creation
Let us now examine the history of the creation as given to Moses. We should emphasize that
the word "created" which some men have interpreted as "being made from
nothing" really comes from a Hebrew word which means "to organize." 1 In
other words, the Lord's power of creation is really his organizing power. Even with God
there is no such thing as making something from nothing.
Apparently it was not easy for the Lord to present the creation story. It is obvious from
his statements to Moses that he was conscious of the fact that the children of men do not
have the present capacity to comprehend many of the eternal principles used during the
creation process. To describe the creation in detail would have raised more questions than
it would have answered.
In many respects we are like little children who might ask a scientist to explain how
atomic bombs are made. Only simple generalities could be given because the complex
procedures and scientific principles involved would not be understood. The Lord has a
similar problem as he attempts to unfold to us the colorful panorama of the creation.
At the beginning of the Millennium, however, the details of the creation story are to be
revealed to us in all their magnificence. The Lord says it will be knowledge which
"no man knew." Meanwhile we must be content with the basic generalities which
the Lord gave to Moses as a foundation for the greater revelation which is to come. We
begin our study with the basic outline which Moses received.
"In the Beginning" -- When Was It?
The Lord declared: "In the beginning I created the heaven and the earth upon which
thou standest."
It is here that students of the Bible have often stumbled. They have assumed that this
"beginning" of the Lord's creative processes refers to the beginning of the
temporal creation of this present earth. But the "beginning" of the earth's
creation goes farther back. Thirty-five verses later in Moses 3:5 the Lord explains it.
"I, the Lord God, created all things of which I have spoken spiritually before they
were [created] naturally." Or, as the Lord explains in another place, all things were
created "first spiritual, secondly temporal."
In other words, the whole first chapter of Genesis which describes the organizing of a
planet, the bringing forth of plants, animals and human beings, has nothing to do with the
physical or temporal creation of our present earth. It is dealing with the spiritual
creation of the earth and the placing of spiritual plants and creatures upon it.
The fact that all things had to be organized spiritually before they were "added
upon" and brought into this present temporal sphere indicates that the earth and all
things in it are much more complicated in structure than men have imagined. These things
have a history reaching far back beyond the horizon of material things as we know them
now. |
